The newly appointed four-member expert committee will select 10-10 best institutions of government and private sector, which will be given the status of Institute of Iminence. According to sources in the HRD Ministry, apart from all eight old IITs, IIMs, Central Universities, many State Universities have also applied for this. At the same time, private sector has also shown great enthusiasm.
A senior official of the ministry said that after scrutinizing all the proposals the first phase would be sorted. The last date for application of Institute of Iminence was up to December 31, 2017, which was later extended to February 22. In order to reach out to Indian Higher Education Institutions in the top 100 institutions of the world, the Union Human Resource Development Ministry had planned to set up 20 institutes of humanism in the country. Center will provide 1,000 crores and higher level autonomy to selected institutions of the government sector and autonomy will be given to private sector institutions.
